ITS FREAKIN' FREEZING!

OK. So i know its Septemeber 28, but honestly, is it this cold every year???? This morning i actually had to SCRAPE my car windows!! Seems pretty ridiculous to me! On the plus side, the sun is shining BEAUTIFULLY and the leaves are gorgeous. However, to add insult to injury (being our 8:30 quiz) our Mus.ed prof started the day singing "autumn's here, leaves are falling, its getting cold" (or something to that effect...) as if we aren't frozen and dreading winter. BAH! ALTHOUGH... i have to say, i'm pretty pumped about snowboarding! (YIPPEE YIPPEE YIPPEE)

In other news, i think i'm getting relatively on top of a few of my assignments - i don't think being actually on top of things is really possible in this college - but life is running a little more smoothly.
ALSO!! I got to play my first public performance instrument today! In fact i only learned how today! I AM A TRIANGLE PRO. Bow down in awe.

On a sadder note (haha - you catching all the musical references??) Erin and Ashey are leaving Greig Ave, effective immediately. As we have been saying, the landlord is not a big fan of pets... and when he found out, he politely requested that we either remove the pet or ourselves. Ah. such is life. The upside is that we get to stay, and the dog gets to go. I would feel bad, but after a summer of paying rent and not living there, i think i might have been a little choked to have to find a new home.

anyway... hope you have a fantastically purple day.

so my dad thinks i'm on pot....

He might actually be right, sadly. I forgot (literally) that it is my birthday on Sunday! I was talking to my sis and relaying messages from my dad to her and he said "its your birthday" and i actually thought he was talking about her birthday... OOPS. is it a sign of getting older or just blonder?? Damn hair dye.

ANYWAY! The point of this little ramble is to invite YOU (if you're actually a person i know, possible love and actually like) to my birthday party - with a special guest appearance of my almost birthday-twin Evan Cole. (he thinks that i'm the guest, but its at my house, so CLEARLY HE'S the guest. Don't tell him tho'... i think he'd be sad.) Since EVERY good party needs a theme, we're gonna have a Pirate Pop - Luck (ie: bring - or steal- somebody else's pop or chips or something) and come party with us!

Some of us (no names mentioned) are going all out in the pirate gear, so feel free to come pirated up!
The whole Shindig is set to start somewhere around 7:30 at my house. If you don't know where that is, call or email me.

See you here!

    Random Friday Ramblings

Wow, hard to believe its Friday already, and here i am, procrastinating and reading blogs of friends in Vancouver... we miss you Beth and Lisa... and wishing i could be there and see old and new friends, and a city i really like. maybe i should write a couple of emails.
Well, enough rambling to that effect - can you tell that i really don't want to do my homework? - I think i might go clean my car with the Free Clean Coupon i got. YAY. i love free things. ALSO  - if you've never heard of it before, there is a yahoo group called "freecycle" which appears to be awesome. Anna's used it a couple times - place to give and get stuff that is unwanted.. i like the concept.

    Till later!

    life

this is cute. it was emailed to me, and i thought it might be worth posting here instead of forwarding and being deleted.

    SLOW DANCE

    Have you ever watched kids
    On a merry-go-round?
    Or listened to the rain
    Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
    You better slow down.
    Don't dance so fast.
    Time is short.
    The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
    On the fly?
When you ask How are you?
    Do you hear the reply?
    When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
    With the next hundred chores
    Running through your head?
    You'd better slow down
    Don't dance so fast.
    Time is short.
    The music won't last.

    Ever told a child,
    We'll do it tomorrow?
    And in your haste,
    Not see his sorrow?
    Ever lost touch,
    Let a good friendship die
    Cause you never had time
    To call and say,"Hi"
    You'd better slow down.
    Don't dance so fast.
    Time is short.
    The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....
    Thrown away.
    Life is not a race.
    Do take it slower
    Hear the music
    Before the song is over.

    NUMA NUMA

More wise words from the summer! Seriously, this song was like a cult trigger... EVERY SINGLE camp we played this (usually numerously!) and kids bopped to it. Quite hilarious. Check out the subtitles if you like... there are some really poetic words in here! Numa numa video

Sometime if i ever get a copy of it, i'll play you "tecno river". You've never heard the song...you know... "in my life, you are the river... purify, wash away", until you've heard the techno version. Turns out that its actually a Keats song from way back in the day - and they did a remix as a joke... hehe. you have to hear it someday!

    The Wild Wild West

SO this was actually a surprisingly good weekend!! I have been looking forward to the C&C retreat for quite a while (i booked it back in like March), but wasn't really into actually doing any work for it... some call me lazy... they're prob right! But anyhoo...i was also pretty discouraged, because for some reason, we had a pretty small group who signed up for it, in comparisson to our usual 45. I don't really know why, there are many reasons out there, but i was down about it on Friday that we were meant to go. Turns out tho', that we had a terrific speaker in Rosemary and i really felt like i learned a lot from her.

Also, since we were out on a farm (Rosthern Youth Farm), we got to go horseback riding! I haven't riden for AGES (*i know.. *GASP*... sorry beloved relatives!) and i had an AWESOME time! i got the horse that likes to run, which, due to my need for speed, suited me just fine!
This is a pic of Ryan, the ultimate cowboy, who doesn't know how to ride! He did a really good job, and i love this pic. something about the clouds especially. We had some others who were big fans of the horseriding, but others who really preferred the little ones... hehe. just kidding - pretty much everybody went out, and had a really good time.
Finally, a weekend just wouldn't be retreat without some horsing around ('scuse the pun) with dangerous weapons. I think we've decided that Anna is the most responsible, and i am NOT an archer! Christine is also a little scary looking, make sure you don't get in her way!

And this is just a cute pic of anna and i... aww! We've been friends for such a long time, but i don't think we actually have any pics of us together except for when we're travelling. AND the THOUSANDS of wedding pics.EEK. Evan says i didnt' smile in about 700 of them. OOPS.

So all in all, it was a good weekend - good talks, yummy food, good trampolining (and backflips :)), horsies, worship, games, walks, movies and playing in the park.

    Hope your weekend rocked too!

Words of the summer... "That's Ka-Blamo!"

    Check out this video!

    BLESSED BE YOUR NAME!

    Blessed Be Your Name
    by Matt Redman
album: Where Angels Fear To Tread (2002)

Covered by tree63 (the version i like way more!)
if you go to their site, at the bottom is a "tree player" with the different songs from their album... its REALLY worth the listen.

    - - -
    Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
    Blessed be Your name

    Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
    Blessed Be Your name

    Every blessing You pour out
    I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
    Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be Your glorious name

    Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
    Blessed be Your name

    Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
    Blessed be Your name

    Every blessing You pour out
    I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
    Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be Your glorious name

    You give and take away
    You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
    Lord, blessed be Your name

    random thoughts...

    3RF's
So i haven't done 3 random facts in ages (i don't even remember what i last wrote!) but here we go agian...

    > i live with 4 roomies and a 3 month old pug puppy (really cute, but kinda pee-e if you catch my drift
    > my flowers are cosmos. (picked). my favourite "growing" flowers are iris'.. esp the pretty purple and white/yellow ones.
    > I went bungy jumping and didn't die http://www.faceadrenalin.com/
(check out the cool 360 video... its the BLOUKRANS BRIDGE - highest bungy in the world)

9 degrees. Yes, ladies and gentlemen... i introduce you to saskatchewan in the fall. man i need to get out there and take some leaves pic's.. they're all turning yellow already! EEK! so i do feel justified in all my complaining about the cold weather. It actually is chilly! LOL.
My room is almost starting to look NOT like a disaster area. Granted,i have a big desk in the middle of it, which has to go away (long story of excited free find, not so excited no fit), and everything else pretty much has a home! its nice to be finally settled in. Now all i need to do is aquire a locker, find my long lost paper punch, and i think i'm in business!

College and Career is also almost in business again. We had our 2nd one tonight, with pretty much new crowd.. which means, we have a lot of people coming out.. just not all together! We have our retreat this weekend, so i'm pretty pumped about the horseback riding and hanging out with Rose. She's awesome, and helping out at C&C, so i'm glad to get to learn from her some more. To me she is camp! I really missed her the summer i was there and she wasn't.

Well, it is 11:18 and *gasp* i think i'm going to bed. for some reason i have been wiped this whole week, so i'm going to enjoy taking it a bit easier next week.

    keep on strivin'

This is a quote that a smart woman wrote and hung on my door, and funny enough, i didn't really ever think about what it meant for me until i came home from church on sunday and lay on my bed reading it.

    Carpe Diem.

On a lighter note, in the last week i have: i accidentally dyed my hair orange, managed to get a huge desk into my little car, ate dinner at my parent's house, finished about 5 assignments and a book, watched "first daughter",  thought about mowing my lawn, played with the puppy, did laundry, survived my first week at school, obtained free lunch, got a new student card, had 3 meetings, skipped youth (cos i had to), sat in the hot tub, went to church and SO MUCH ELSE! I can't believe i've only been back from BC for 8 days. Its insane.

Life is busy and God is good.

    keep smiling

    Carpe Diem (part 2)

isn't it funny that God understands the intricacies of our brains before we even fully understand what we're saying or feeling? I finished typing up my blog entry below about 2 mins after i was supposed to be in church this morning. I walked into church to find that the theme for the message this morning was "don't waste your life". This is the verse that captured my attention:

"So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do." Eph 5:15 - 17

    and then a corrolory verse:

"In everything you do, put GOd first and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success" Prov 3:6

Living for God and not wasting my life means living each moment for Him, in every circumstance that i am placed. Yes i miss Marlene and Keats and BC, and YES! God definatly has a plan and a reason why i'm in Saskatoon this year.

so i'm feeling way better now, thanks to my Father!
    till later!!

    Carpe Diem

I really like the concept of seizing the moment, and this song sorta captures how i feel sometimes. For me, leaving Toon town and going to BC was a big step - far from friends, family and any sort of support system, and i threw myeself into it. I made some close friends, and feel stuck in the moment - homesick for a place and people i've only known for 2 months. But coming back means embracing life here and loving each moment. It doesn't mean forgetting or disregarding or a magic stop loving, or abandoning future plans, but it does mean that i'm going to sieze each day that i'm here right now, and leave future dreams to the future and the past to the past.
So that's what i'm going to try to do. I just wish it didn't hurt.

    Stuck in a moment

I’m not afraid of anything in this world
There’s nothing you can throw at me that I haven’t already heard
I’m just trying to find a decent melody
A song that I can sing in my own company

You’ve got to get yourself together
You’ve got stuck in a moment
And now you can’t get out of it
Don’t say that later will be better
Now you’re stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it

I will not forsake the colours that you bring
The nights you filled with fireworks, they left you with nothing
I am still enchanted by the light you brought to me
I listen through your ears, through your eyes I can see

And you are such a fool
    To worry like you do
    I know it’s tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you don’t really need now, my, oh my

You’ve got to get yourself together
You’ve got stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it
Oh love, look at you now
You’ve got yourself stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it

    I was unconscious, half asleep
The water is warm till you discover how deep
I wasn’t jumping, for me it was a fall
It’s a long way down to nothing at all

You’ve got to get yourself together
You’ve got stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it
Don’t say that later will be better
Now you’re stuck in a moment
And you can’t get out of it

And if the night runs over
And if the day won’t last
And if our way should falter
    Along the stony pass
    It’s just a moment
    This time will pass

Another pic from the island.. beautiful hey!

Been a really relaxed day.. I was supposed to go to Harvest Moon in Edmonton, but decided that i just couldn't cope if i didn't sleep soon! I also got a lot of cleaning up and settling in done, so i think it was worth skipping the trip (although i've heard it is FANTASTIC. I hope it didn't get rained out, since its poured here all day. I'm looking forward to going to church tomorrow... wow, hard to believe its been 3 months! So much goes on... engagements, weddings, crazyness!

But i had better get to bed before i sleep thru church tomorrow!

    Perspectives on Keats

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Ok, so i figued that i should start posting again, since its def been a while, and then i got distracted by  some crazy MSN'ing.  so i decided (since i have to be at work in less than 5 hours) that i might just stick some pics up and explain them, and let that be it for today. SO>>>>  this one is a map of where i spent my summer. Keats island (as you can see) is in the Howe sound, just outside of North Vancouver, which is where i spent the rest of my time, with Marlene (my aformentioned roomie... yes you have to read other posts for aformentions) and her family. Good times.

This is a map of the fun fun ferry system. You get on a big boat at horseshoe bay which transpors you to Langdale, from which you can catch a small boat/ water taxi to Keats island. Its fun to be in boats, but not a quick exercize.
    Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com This is Molly's Reach resturant. It is in Gibsons, which is the little pointy part of the mainland opposite Keats island. (right opp the red dot.) ITs where we get all our food and take all our garbage to adn from. In the 70's or something, they filmed a whole TV series here, and the resturant was apparently the focal location. so now its a big tourist attraction.  And by big, i mean, ALL the locals know the history well.  I actually never ate there, but i went with somebody who needed to pee in the bathroom. IT COUNTS.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com <- and this is the Gibson's marina. A welcome sight on a day off.

    Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The picture above gives you some idea of teh absolute GORGEOUS scenery.  i wish i had been able to capture it more. STUNNING>

but anyway, to sleep i go.  I promise to tell you more of my adventures sometime soon when my internet at home is fully functioning, and  MarMar stops distracting me. (Just kididng. distract away... i miss you!)

    loves and hugs.

    car

wow, it has most definately been a while...
